St. Johns County is set to break ground on a brand-new $38 million sports complex near the Shearwater neighborhood—a welcome addition for local families like Jesse Green’s, who enjoy spending time outdoors.
The new SJC Tournament Complex will include eight rectangular fields (five turf, three natural grass), a track, multipurpose spaces, and playgrounds, offering something for athletes and families alike.
Construction is expected to begin following a groundbreaking ceremony on June 4, with the complex projected to be completed by late next year—around November or December.
County officials have assured residents that traffic in the Shearwater area should remain largely unaffected, aside from some construction-related vehicles during the building phase.
Ryan Kane, the county’s Parks and Recreation Director, emphasized the importance of the project, calling it a major investment that supports the area’s rapid growth and growing demand for recreational facilities.
