A Jacksonville Beach landmark that’s been around for nearly 100 years is getting a modern refresh. The Casa Marina Hotel, originally built in 1925 and located at 691 First Street North, is undergoing renovations led by local development firm Corner Lot.
In 2005, the historic hotel earned a spot on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s list of Historic Hotels of America.
“This is a rare opportunity to celebrate the history of Jacksonville Beach while making meaningful improvements for the future,” said Corner Lot CEO Andy Allen in a statement. “The Casa Marina has been part of this community for almost a century.”
The hotel was sold by PETRA, a boutique real estate firm based in Jacksonville. While financial details haven’t been released, the firm expressed enthusiasm about the project.
“We’re excited to see what’s next for the Casa Marina,” said Elias Hionides, PETRA’s vice president. “It’s such a unique and cherished spot in the community, and we look forward to what the future holds for it.”
Corner Lot has brought together a team to help bring their vision to life. Jacksonville-based Bold Line Design and Robbins Design Studio are handling the architecture, while hospitality partners include Sage Hospitality Group from Denver and local firm Kelco Management and Development Inc. Legal support is being provided by the Jacksonville law firm Driver, McAfee, Hawthorne & Diebenow.
“Our aim is to protect the hotel’s legacy while making the surrounding area more vibrant and reflective of Jacksonville Beach’s unique personality,” Allen said. “We’re grateful to the Hionides family for partnering with us to move this vision forward.”
Plans for the renovation include a refreshed hotel exterior, new retail and dining spaces, and improvements to the beachfront area to make it more pedestrian-friendly.
