Jacksonville Surf Park Moves Forward With Plans for 45-Acre Wave Lagoon, Surf Academy and Wellness Hub in eTown

Aventuur Inc., a global developer of surf parks, is moving ahead with plans for Jacksonville Surf Park — a 45-acre destination anchored by a 5.5-acre Wavegarden Cove Lagoon capable of generating ocean-quality waves for more than 80 surfers at once.

But the concept goes far beyond the wave. Aventuur’s vision is to create a full lifestyle destination built around surf, wellness, community, and local culture. Plans include a surf academy, recovery and wellness center, retail, and coastal-inspired dining — all designed to feel authentically “Jacksonville.”

According to chief revenue officer Rupert Partridge, Aventuur’s approach centers on four pillars: surf, wellbeing, community, and culture. The Wavegarden technology will allow adjustable waves so surfers of all ages and skill levels can progress and enjoy the experience.

“We want the surf park to be a safe, inclusive space,” said Adrian “Ace” Buchan, Aventuur’s director of surf and sustainability. “The technology levels the playing field — everyone can have fun.”

The surf academy will offer training for beginners, intermediate surfers, and advanced riders looking to elevate their skills. Recovery amenities such as saunas, ice baths, massage, and physiotherapy are also planned to help make the park a year-round destination.

Even non-surfers will have space to enjoy the environment, whether they’re relaxing, watching the action, or enjoying food and retail options inspired by Jacksonville’s coastal lifestyle. Partridge and Buchan — both originally from Australia — explored the local dining scene to make sure the offerings reflect Jacksonville’s character.

Local involvement has been central to the project. Morgan Phillips, one of nine Jacksonville-based partners working with Aventuur, said the intention from the start was to create a project built “for Jacksonville and by Jacksonville.” Many of the local partners represent multigenerational Jacksonville families.

During their time in the area, the Aventuur team also supported the Super Girl Surf Festival in Jacksonville Beach, sponsoring the Inspiring Star Award for two female surfers.

Engineering work is underway with Prosser Inc., and the city approved civil plans for the park’s master infrastructure on Oct. 2. The Jacksonville City Council has also unanimously approved $4.6 million in incentives for the project.

This will be Aventuur’s first surf park in the United States; the company is based in California and Australia. Construction is slated to begin in 2026, with an anticipated opening in 2028.

Ultimately, Aventuur hopes the park becomes a true reflection of Jacksonville’s surf identity.

“We want locals to feel like this park belongs to them,” Partridge said. “And for visitors, we want them to experience what it really feels like to be a Jacksonville surfer — even if it’s just for a few hours.”
