A major hotel in St. Johns County has changed hands.
The World Golf Village Renaissance St. Augustine Resort was sold for $24.25 million, with the deal finalized on July 3, according to county records.
The new owner is Sun Development & Management Corporation, based in Indianapolis, operating through St. Augustine Lodging Associates LLC. This acquisition brings the company’s total number of Florida hotels to four, as part of its nationwide portfolio that spans from California to Florida.
The previous owner was Atrium Finance IV, based in Phoenix.
The hotel, which spans 267,806 square feet, was originally built in 1998 during the early stages of the World Golf Village development.
Today, the area has become one of the busiest parts of the county, especially following the arrival of big retailers like Bass Pro Shops, Buc-ee’s, and Costco, along with other developments.
While more development is expected around the Renaissance hotel in the coming years, plans for the area remain uncertain.
The World Golf Hall of Fame has closed, and the nearby IMAX theater has shut down as well. The PGA Tour Productions building next door is also vacant now that the Tour has relocated to its new campus in Ponte Vedra Beach.
St. Johns County is currently exploring ideas for the more than 110,000 square feet of available building space and the 36 acres of surrounding land. A Request for Proposals has been issued to gather redevelopment plans for the county-owned property.
